Cardiololgy Fellowship

Program Details

The core Cardiology Fellowship Program is three years in duration.  This program is fully accredited by A.C.G.M.E. (American Counsel for Graduate Medical Education) http://www.acgme.org/index.htm and was recently given the highest accreditation of 5 years.

Currently there are nine Sub-Specialty Resident positions in the program with three residents graduating each year.   Through our affiliation agreement with Sparrow Hospital http://www.sparrow.org/, all fellows are contracted during their course of training with Sparrow Health Systems.

The Sub-Specialty Resident (Fellow) will gain exposure to a range of invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular procedures and actively participate in coronary angiography including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, patient management both pre-operatively and post-operatively and patient discharge.  Additionally, the resident will gain exposure to a wide range of general cardiology patients including both acute and chronic by actively participating in admissions, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, daily patient management and discharge.  The resident will gain experience in non-invasive testing by being exposed to a wide range of cardiology testing procedures and the interpretation of those results. Residents will actively participate in the performance, interpretation and discussion of these testing modalities.  The resident will receive instruction in electro physiology procedures, indications for testing, appropriate case management both pre and post operatively, pacemaker placement and monitoring and therapeutic measures.  The resident will gain exposure to a range of cardiothoracic surgical procedures and actively participate in monitoring and assessing various parameters both pre and post operatively, enhancing their ability to insert and monitor central lines and transesophogeal echocardiography.

Following completion, fellows will be eligible for board certification in Cardiovascular Disease.
