Founded in 1855, Michigan State University is the nation's first land grant institution and major Big Ten university which is home to 40,000 students and 2,500 faculty and staff. MSU was the first institution of higher learning in the United States to teach scientific agriculture.

MSU has the largest contiguous campus of any college or university in the United States, with a wealth of walking and cycling trails, forests and other natural areas, display gardens, museums, libraries, and cultural centers. Kresge Art Museum: houses MSU’s collection of nearly 7,000 works of art spanning 5,000 years of human history

Abrams Planetarium: houses a Digistar computer graphics planetarium projector and a 150-seat sky theater

Horticultural Demonstration Gardens: six distinct gardens over 7.5 acres provide a living laboratory where plants and people grow together

MSU is adjacent to downtown East Lansing, with its wealth of shops, restaurants, and bookstores. The MSU Wharton Center for the Performing Arts offers several concert series each year featuring the finest in classical, popular, and international music, drama, and dance. Other educational, recreational and cultural opportunities include the annual East Lansing Art Festival, the MSU Horticultural Demonstration Gardens and Children's Garden, Abrams Planetarium, MSU Museum, Kresge Art Museum, Forest Akers Golf Course, Spartan Stadium, Munn Ice Arena, and the Jack Breslin Student Events Center.
