Program Application Using ERAS

The Fellowship Program Director is responsible for selecting eligible candidates for the cardiovascular fellowship program. Applications to our program were to be submitted to ERAS on between December 1, 2007 to March 1, 2008. Incomplete applications will not be accepted for review. All supporting documentation must be included in the application which includes the letters of recommendation.

Documents submitted after March 1, 2008 or later will not be accepted. Review of applications for candidates in our program will not take place until after the closing of March 1, 2008. Dr. Abela will make the selection after March 1, 2008 and candidates will be notified. Interviews will take place April 16, 2008 and April 18, 2008. You will be notified 30 days prior to the date of interview so you can make arrangements for coverage in your residency program. The dates selected for interview are the only dates available for candidates to meet with the faculty. No exceptions are allowed. If you call the program, no information can be given to you until the final list of selected applicants has been announced to the candidates selected. If you have been selected as a candidate to interview you will be notified in writing, via email and by phone if necessary.

Typically interviews take place the first two weeks of April as indicated above. If you are asked to interview as a candidate, you will be asked to interview with 3 or more of our faculty, you will take a tour of Sparrow Hospital and you will have a luncheon with the current cardiology fellows so you can ask questions and get to know them. The interview will be a full day from 8:00 to 5:00. You must plan to be here the full day. If we finish early we will let you know so that you can leave early. Candidate with planes to catch early will be given first choice of interview times.

The cardiovascular disease fellowship program at Michigan State University participates in the organized matching program through the National Residency Matching Program. After the interview process for the fellow candidates, the Program Director and other faculty make a selection of candidates. These candidates are then listed with the National Residency Matching Program in ranking order www.nrmp.org) which makes the final selection for the program.

Once a candidate has been selected through the National Residency Matching Program, the program director will contact the selected candidate(s) on the NRMP match date. Each fellow selected will be given a brief overview of what to expect next.

A letter of offer will be sent to the selected candidates after the first of the year. Credentialing and preparing for the intitial start date of the fellowship program begins 6 months after the selection.

We do accept applicants on a J-1 or Hb1 visa. Please read our policy on Moonlighting if you are on either of these visas.
